There are some very important basics in the game of golf. They are not absolutes but will make the game a little easier and more manageable especially for the beginner golfer. Alignment is one of those basics that’s crucial to learn as a new golfer. So you ask, “what is alignment?” There are two parts of golfing alignment that I always teach to the beginner golfer. The face and head alignment of the golf club is number one and body alignment is number two. Let’s start with the face alignment of the club.
I always encourage my student’s to point the face to the target or in the way they want the ball to start. Since 80% of the golf balls starting point is directly related to the face of the golf club. Point the face to the left of the target and the ball will usually start left and opposite is true. I like to encourage my student’s to point the club face close to the start direction of their intended ball flight.
In the video below you will see how I demonstrate for your the proper face and club head alignment along with body alignment.
There is always personal preference because not everyone is built the same or swings the same. You will have self-discovery of the best way for you to make your body and club lines efficient. You should use alignment sticks or clubs to work in a station to help your practice become perfect. Or you can have a friend or PGA Golf Professional help guide you to making sure your body is correctly aligned to the target line.
My basic instruction helps you understand your shoulders, hips, knees and feet all should be parallel to your target line. Beginning with this type of body alignment will lead to less compensations over time. This does not mean you are going to hit the perfect shot every time but it will give you a terrific opportunity to make the ball go in the direction you desire.
To all of my Jess Frank Golf Academy students and fans, I am moving my golf instruction business to Deer Creek Golf Club in Deerfield Beach, Fl. I would like to thank Boca Dunes Golf & Country Club for their support over the years and allowing me to build an amazing golf coaching program. I am looking forward to many years of growth and opportunity at Deer Creek Golf Club. Deer Creek is a tremendous opportunity for all of my students with an awesome driving range, short game area and putting green!
