Even though there are varying set-up positions you will see the majority of the best ball strikers applying these principles. You can look down any driving range change these 3 set-up positions and immediately change your impact.
My goal as an instructor is to get you hitting the ball more solid, longer, higher and more consistent in the quickest amount of time. Most amateurs don’t have the time to dedicate hours of practice to make a swing change. However, you, me and everyone reading this article can put their body in these 3 positions.
In this video, you will find 3 keys to your set-up to gain more power, hit the ball more solid and give you the best opportunity to hit a powerful draw.
Your 3 quick keys to a consistent set-up are the following:
- Since your trail hand (my right hand) is lower on the grip your shoulders should be tilted to the right or towards your trail hand. Your natural position is to have your rear shoulder lower than your front shoulder. Practice this in a mirror and your will start getting the correct spine tilt. This helps tremendously with a driver because you can gain major DISTANCE by slightly hitting up on a driver.
- Your trail arm should be lower than your lead arm. A very simple way to do this is to put your trail elbow into your side with your palm up in the air. Next, get your hand to grip the club more “under” the grip. Make sure the club is in your fingers of your right hand. Your trail arm, hand, wrist are extremely important in the golf swing. Doing this will allow you to swing the club on a path more in to out. An in to out path will lead to a coveted powerful draw.
- Weight forward. Get 80% of your weight on your lead foot. Move your hips forward to help you accomplish this set up. Moving your weight forward will effect your path more in to out and get your bottom of your swing in the correct spot.
Take action with these 3 keys to a consistent set-up and you will benefit immediately. Most golfers don’t do enough of these 3 keys. You can change your golf game with in seconds!
